In a desperate bid to revive his journalism career, Eddie Brock, a disgraced reporter, decides to interview Cletus Kasady, a notorious serial killer on death row. Kasady, a sociopath, eagerly shares his twisted worldview with Brock, who hopes the exclusive will be his ticket back to the top. However, during the interview, Kasady reveals that he has a symbiotic connection with an alien entity known as Carnage, granting him immense power.
Despite the warnings from his ex-wife, Anne Weying, and her fiancé, Dr. Dan Lewis, Brock is drawn deeper into Kasady's dark world. His obsession with the story leads him to investigate further, uncovering Kasady's troubled past and the origins of Carnage. Meanwhile, Kasady's execution goes awry when the symbiote within him awakens, allowing him to break free from prison and go on a killing spree.
Brock realizes that he has inadvertently unleashed a deadly force upon the world and feels responsible for stopping Kasady/Carnage. He struggles with his own inner demons, as the symbiote Venom, which he shares a bond with, urges him to embrace his darker instincts to combat Carnage. However, Brock is determined to do things differently this time and seeks redemption by confronting Kasady without succumbing to his own violent tendencies.
As the city plunges into chaos with Carnage on the loose, Brock teams up with Anne, Dr. Lewis, and the authorities to track down Kasady before more lives are lost. Their efforts are further complicated by the arrival of a mysterious government agency led by Agent Mulligan, who has his own agenda for capturing both Carnage and Venom.
The battle between Brock/Venom and Kasady/Carnage escalates, culminating in a showdown atop a skyscraper. With the help of Anne and Dr. Lewis, Brock manages to weaken Kasady's hold on Carnage, allowing the authorities to apprehend him once again. However, the symbiote manages to escape, leaving Brock to ponder the consequences of his actions and the lingering threat of Carnage's return.
In the aftermath, Brock decides to leave behind his past as a journalist and focus on being a better person, vowing to use his powers for good. He reconciles with Anne and Dr. Lewis, forming an unlikely family unit as they move forward together. However, unbeknownst to them, Carnage has found a new host and begins to plot his next move, setting the stage for a sequel and the ongoing battle between good and evil.
